Tree Limbs and Brush

Storm Damage Pickup

Tree limbs within the City that are downed by a storm will be removed by the City street crews.  Below are the guidelines for this service:

  • Free pickups will only occur after the Director of Administration announces a “Major Storm Pickup” (the Director will consult with the Street Superintendent before making the decision). There must be extensive damage to trees in the community before this service is activated.  The announcement will be posted on this website and on local access cable (Channel 13 for CT customers and Channel 5 for
    Time Warner customers).
  • The service is only for major storm damage only—residents are not permitted to place non-storm damage at the curb under this program.
  • This service is available for small to medium size damage as determined by the Street Superintendent or his designee. The property owner is responsible for having large sized damage removed.
  • Tree limbs that are 4’ or shorter must be either bundled or in a yard waste bag. For tree limbs longer than 4’, place the limbs in a pile with the limbs in one direction.
  • Residents must have the storm damage placed at the curb by the designated date (for efficiency purposes, the City needs to make one trip through the City).

Non-Storm Yard Waste

With the opening of the City Compost/Mulch Facility, the City is discontinuing the free pickup of tree limbs/brush (effective July 1, 2010).
We encourage our residents/businesses to drop off their tree limbs & brush at the City’s Compost Facility; however if needed, a City Crew will pickup tree limbs & brush under the following rules:

  • To schedule a pickup, make payment to the attendant at the City’s Compost/Mulch Facility.
  • This service is only available April through October.
  • Tree limbs that are 4’ or shorter must be either bundled or in a yard waste bag. For tree limbs longer than 4’, place the limbs in a pile with the limbs in one direction. Tree stumps or logs are not permitted.
  • The minimum price is $10.00 and the maximum is $25.00.
  • A 1 ton pickup load is the maximum amount allowed and the service is limited to twice a calendar year.
  • For larger jobs, please contact a tree service or other provider of tree limb and brush removal.
  • Depositing yard waste, or any other material, in the street contrary to the City’s yard waste program is considered “Littering” under Section 3767.32 of the Ohio Revised Code and is subject to prosecution.

Snow Removal

By following these few tips, the streets of Urbana can be cleared in a timely and safe manner.

  • Blow or shovel snow into the yard, not into the street, as it will get pushed back in your parking place or driveway.
  • Move cars from the edges of the streets as soon as possible so that the entire street can be plowed, and so that your car won't be plowed in.
  • Give the plow trucks room in front and in back.  Drivers cannot see vehicles following closely, and need to be watching the road in front of them so please keep your distance, for your own safety.
  • Please be patient in waiting for your street to be cleared.  It takes up to eight hours to clear all the streets in Urbana after a medium snow fall

Christmas Tree Pickup

Christmas tree pick-up will be available through the end of January 2014.

Sidewalks and Curbs

See ordinances 901, 909 and 913 for city regulations about sidewalks and curbs.
