For calendar year 2026, the City of Urbana has approved contracts for the city’s yearly asphalt paving and maintenance projects with the city’s crack sealing program scheduled to start on or after Thursday, June 11, 2026. Under contract with Bituminous Pavement Systems, LLC for $70,490.88, this year’s crack sealing program is planned for the following streets: Monument Square; South Main Street between Monument Square and Market Street; North Main Street between Monument Square and Court Street; Scioto Street from Monument Square to Locust Street; Miami Street from Monument Square to Walnut Street; East Water Street from South Main Street to Finch Street; Hill Street from South Main Street to the eastern end of street; Patrick Avenue from Scioto Street to South Jefferson Avenue; Scioto Street (SR 29) from the US 36/SR 29 split to the eastern corporation limits; US 36 East from the US 36/SR 29 split to the eastern corporation limits; East Court Street from North Main Street to North Jefferson Avenue; East Church Street from North Main Street to North Jefferson Avenue; Wallace Street from East Court Street to East Ward Street; Sycamore Street from Scioto Street to Washington Avenue; East Lawn Avenue from Scioto Street to Bloomfield Avenue; Washington Avenue from North Main Street to East Lawn Avenue; Washington Avenue from North Jefferson Avenue to the eastern end of the street; and Dorothy Moore Avenue between Washington Avenue and Boyce Street. Parking restrictions will be posted within work areas in advance of the work, and vehicles parked in violation will be towed.
In addition to these planned crack sealing projects, the City of Urbana has also awarded a contract to Barrett Paving Materials Inc. for asphalt resurfacing projects within the city in the amount of $854,838.00. This year’s asphalt program is focused on the southeast corner of the city. This asphalt resurfacing work will be scheduled after July 13, 2026 and will be completed no later than October 16, 2026 with the following streets to be resurfaced: Bon Air Drive between Pine Tree Drive and Miller Drive; Pine Tree Drive between Bon Air Drive and Cambridge Drive; Camelot Drive between Bon Air Drive and Cambridge Drive; Cambridge Drive between Pine Tree Drive and New Haven Drive; New Haven Drive between Scioto Street (SR 29) and Seville Drive; Parkway Boulevard between State Route 29 and Seville Drive; Pro Circle; Bentwood Court; and Players Court. Furthermore, the Champaign County Engineer’s Office under a contract with the City of Urbana and Urbana Township will chip seal and fog seal Childrens Home Road between East Lawn Avenue and the eastern corporation limits and East Lawn Avenue between Childrens Home Road and Dellinger Road for an estimated cost of $16,337.56. Upon completion of this chip seal/fog seal work, these roads will be restriped. First Star Safety LLC, under a city contract worth $18,248.91, will restripe pavement markings on the following streets: Monument Square; South Main Street between Monument Square and just south of Pearce Place; North Main Street between Monument Square and Washington Avenue/Gwynne Street; Miami Street between Monument Square and Walnut Street; Scioto Street between Monument Square and Locust Street; East Lawn Avenue between Bloomfield Avenue and Dellinger Road; Childrens Home Road between East Lawn Avenue and the eastern corporation limits; and Dellinger Road between North Main Street and East Lawn Avenue. The latter three streets will be restriped in conjunction with their respective townships. The City of Urbana has also approved a contract with Pavement Technology Incorporated to apply Reclamite to South High Street. Reclamite is a pavement preservation material that increases the longevity of the asphalt surface. The cost of this treatment, which will be applied to the entirety of South High Street, is $17,160.00. Finally, this summer, the Ohio Department of Transportation under a contract with A&B Asphalt Corporation will be resurfacing State Route 55 within the City of Urbana between US Route 68 South and the southwestern corporation limits. The city’s share of the cost is $92,392.25. This resurfacing project has a completion date of August 31, 2026, and the contractor is tentatively scheduled to begin work near the end of June.
