For calendar year 2025, the City of Urbana has approved contracts for the city’s yearly asphalt paving and maintenance projects with the city’s crack sealing program scheduled to start the week of August 11, 2025. Under contract with Scodeller Construction Inc. for $49,240.00, this year’s crack sealing program is planned for the following streets: Boyce Street from Dorothy Moore Avenue to the eastern dead end; Fountain Circle; Diamond Court; Washington Avenue from East Lawn Avenue to N. Jefferson Avenue; Lippencott Lane; Crescent Drive; Wooddale Drive; Finch Street; Ames Avenue; Amherst Drive from Finch Street to Bon Air Drive; E. Powell Ave. from S. Kenton Street to the eastern Corporation limit; E. Broadway Street; Wards Lane; US Route 68 South near the Urbana K-8 school building; Phoenix Drive; Ann Street; Elm Street; S. Rohrer Street; Union Alley between Glenn Avenue and Railroad Street; Railroad Street from Union Alley to Gwynne Street; N. Russell Street from Miami Street to Gwynne Street; Gwynne Street from N. Edgewood Avenue to Poplar Street; Mosgrove Street from N. Edgewood Avenue to N. Oakland Street; Hitt Street; Elbert Street; Norwood Avenue/W. State Route 29 from north of W. Light Street to Millerstown Road; Railroad Street north of W. Light Street; and Taft Avenue. In addition, the portions of Dellinger Road from N. Main Street to East Lawn Avenue that are shared between the City of Urbana and Salem Township will be crack sealed with the cost of this work being shared between these two governmental entities. Parking restrictions will be posted within work areas in advance of the work, and vehicles parked in violation will be towed.
In addition to these planned crack sealing projects, the City of Urbana has also awarded a contract to Barrett Paving Materials Inc. for asphalt resurfacing projects within the city in the amount of $516,731.30. This year’s asphalt program is focused on the southwest part of the city. This asphalt resurfacing work will be scheduled after August 30, 2025 and will be completed no later than October 17, 2025 with the following streets to be resurfaced: W. Broadway Street west of S. High Street; Eichelberger Drive; S. Walnut Street from W. Broadway Street to W. Powell Avenue; S. Walnut Street from W. Reynolds Street to Miami Street; W. Water Street between S. Main Street and S. Walnut Street; Hovey Street between S. Main Street and S. High Street; College Street west of S. High Street; S. Russell Street from College Street to Miami Street; Abbey Lane between S. High Street and Dewey Avenue; and College Way between Dewey Avenue and S. Edgewood Avenue. In late July, the Champaign County Engineer’s Office under a contract with the City of Urbana chip sealed James Avenue between S. Edgewood Avenue and College Way and S. Edgewood Avenue between State Route 55 and Miami Street. Later this summer, these chip sealed streets will be fog sealed, and South Edgewood Avenue will be restriped. Earlier this summer, First Star Safety LLC under a city contract restriped the pavement markings on South Jefferson Avenue/Patrick Avenue (State Route 54); Washington Avenue from East Lawn Avenue to North Jefferson Avenue; US Route 68 South near the Urbana K-8 school building; and East Powell Avenue from South Main Street to South Kenton Street. Finally, later this summer, the Ohio Department of Transportation under a contract with the John R. Jurgensen Company will be resurfacing North Main Street between Washington Avenue/Gwynne Street to the northern corporation limits. Under this contract, US Route 68 North from Urbana to the Champaign/Logan County line is also slated for resurfacing. This resurfacing project has a completion date of October 15, 2025. As part of this resurfacing project within the City of Urbana, safety related improvements will be made to the striping layout and signage within the project corridor.
