Applicable State & Local Laws
Bicycle Laws:
· Bicyclists are subject to all state and local traffic laws.
· Bicyclist may not carry anything that prevents them from keeping at least one hand upon the handlebars.

· No bicycle shall be used to carry more persons at one time than the number for which it is designed and equipped.

· No bicyclist shall attach the bicycle or their self to any vehicle upon a roadway.

· Bicyclist may not ride more than two abreast in a single lane, except on paths set aside for exclusive use of bicycles.

· If the bicycle is in operation at night, the bicycle must be equipped with a white lamp in the front visible from 500 feet, a red reflector in the back visible from 100 to 600 feet and a red lamp in the back visible from 500 feet.

· Every bicycle shall be equipped with an adequate brake when used on a street or highway.

· Bicyclists shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practicable obeying all traffic rules applicable to vehicles and exercising due care when passing a standing vehicle or one proceeding in the same direction.

· No person shall operate a bicycle in a weaving or zigzag course.

· Bicyclist must have both hands upon the handle grips except when necessary to give the required hand and arm signals.

· Bicyclist must not ride at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the existing conditions.

· No person shall park a bicycle upon a sidewalk in such a manner so as to unduly interfere with pedestrian traffic or upon a roadway so as to unduly interfere with vehicular traffic.

· No person shall operate a bicycle upon a sidewalk within a business district or shopping center or upon a sidewalk where signs are erected prohibiting such operation.

SKATEBOARD, ROLLERBLADES, AND ROLLER SKATE LAWS
· Skateboards, rollerblades or roller skates may not be ridden upon any roadway.
Urbana-311.03(a)
· Skateboards, rollerblades or roller skates may not be ridden upon a sidewalk or public parking area within a business district, or where signs are erected prohibiting such operation.

· Every person riding a skateboard or wearing rollerblades or roller skates shall yield the right of way to all pedestrians at all times and shall pass them, without causing injury or reasonable fear for their safety, even if dismounting or stopping shall be necessary.

· Every person riding a skateboard shall dismount a skateboard at a street intersection and shall walk as a pedestrian across such intersection.
Urbana-311.04(f)
· During the time from one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise, or when there is insufficient natural light which prevents persons from being clearly seen at a distance of 300 feet, every person using skateboards, rollerblades and roller skates along or upon a roadway shall wear between the neck and waist, material such as a vest, sash band, or tape which is reflective at a distance of 300 feet.
