North Main Street Corridor Plan

The City of Urbana, with input from residents, local businesses, and community partners, has developed a Plan for a portion of the North Main Street corridor. Click here to download the final PDF version of the North Main Street Corridor Plan.  The North Main Street Corridor Plan includes the area along North Main Street from Gwynne Street/Washington Avenue to Grimes Circle.  Overall, the goal of the plan is to guide future development and redevelopment opportunities.  This planning process has resulted in recommendations for future land use, zoning code updates or revisions, and infrastructure improvements to support investment and reinvestment within this corridor.  The prime consultant on the project was Burton Planning Services.
 
On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, the City of Urbana Planning Commission recommended adoption of the plan.  Furthermore, the plan was formally adopted by Urbana City Council pursuant to the passage of Ordinance No. 4609-24 on August 6, 2024.

A community survey regarding the draft North Main Street Corridor Plan was made available to the public from April 22, 2024 through May 5, 2024.  A summary and the survey results are available for review and have been included in the plan document and appendices.

Steering Committee

On August 30, 2023, the first Steering Committee meeting was held for the North Main Street Corridor Plan with approximately 15 attendees participating.  A copy of the presentation for this first Steering Committee meeting is available for online viewing here. A summary of this first Steering Committee meeting is available for online viewing here.

On December 13, 2023, the second Steering Committee meeting was held for the North Main Street Corridor Plan with approximately 11 attendees participating.  A copy of the presentation for this second Steering Committee meeting is available for online viewing here, and the meeting summary is available for online viewing here.

On February 27, 2024, the third and final Steering Committee meeting was held for the North Main Street Corridor Plan with approximately 10 attendees participating.  A copy of the presentation for this third Steering Committee meeting is available for online viewing here, and the meeting summary is available for online viewing here.

Community Survey

The community survey was available September 12, 2023 – October 15, 2023. 
A summary and the survey results are available for review and have been included in the plan document and appendices.

Re-Imagine North Main: A Collaborative Community Effort

The community was invited to attend a community meeting on October 30, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  At the event, attendees were asked to provide their opinion on the look & feel of North Main Street, what they do there, and how they move about in the area.  The presentation is available for online viewing here.  In addition, the meeting summary based on the public feedback received at this meeting is available for online viewing here.

Community Open House and Survey

On Thursday, January 18, 2024, the community was invited to an open house at 6:00 PM at the Urbana Municipal Building to learn about the draft vision statement, goal statements, and action steps for the North Main Street Corridor Plan.  In addition to this in-person open house, the public was able to share feedback on the draft vision statement, goal statements, and action steps for the North Main Street Corridor Plan by completing a brief survey that opened to the public on January 4, 2024 and closed to responses on February 5, 2024.
