North Main Street Corridor Plan
The City of Urbana, in partnership with residents, local businesses, and community partners, is developing a Plan for a portion of the North Main Street corridor. The goal of the plan is to guide future development and redevelopment opportunities. The plan process will result in recommendations for future land use, zoning code updates or revisions, and infrastructure improvements to support investment and reinvestment within this corridor.
The North Main Street Corridor Plan will include the area along North Main Street from Gwynne Street/Washington Avenue to Grimes Circle. The Plan will be based on input from residents, local businesses, and other community stakeholders.
The prime consultant on the project is Burton Planning Services.

Community Engagement
The planning process will include a Steering Committee, a community survey, a visioning charette, and two public meetings. The survey and additional engagement materials will be available in the future.
On August 30, 2023, the first Steering Committee meeting was held for the North Main Street Corridor Plan with approximately 15 attendees participating. A copy of the presentation for this first Steering Committee meeting is available for online viewing here.

Community Survey
The online Community Survey for the North Main Street Corridor Plan is now live and ready for community input. This survey is designed to learn more about people’s experiences in the area, including strengths and challenges of the area. Furthermore, the survey is one way that the project team is able to understand the community’s vision for the area in the future. The deadline to participate in the Community Survey is October 15, 2023.
Please note that all survey responses and comments will be made available for the public to view in both the final report and the appendix.
