What is Safety Town?
Safety Town is for children entering Kindergarten to learn lessons on safety. Safety Town provides fun interactions and education between students and police officers where the following topics are covered:
We are assisted each day with presentations from various local partners including the Urbana Fire Division, Urbana City Schools bus transportation, Urbana City Pool (YMCA), Champaign County Job & Family Services, and others.
Each week concludes with a graduation ceremony for the youngsters to enjoy.
The classes are held at the Urbana Police Division's Safety Town which is located to the south of the city pool in Melvin Miller Park.
Safety town is a miniature town where participants get to practice what they learn in the classroom in a safe environment. Urbana Police Officers will lead the lessons each day.
