Tree limbs within the City that are downed by a storm will be removed by the City street crews. Below are the guidelines for this service:
When there is major storm damage to trees, the City will open the compost facility, offering residents storm damage drop-off free of charge; if needed, the City Street Department will schedule days/weeks for pickup of storm damage at the curb. The Major Storm Pick-up will be operated under the following rules:
Residents must have the storm damage placed at the curb by the designated date (for efficiency purposes, the City needs to make one trip through the City).
Non-Storm Yard Waste
With the opening of the City Compost/Mulch Facility, the City is discontinuing the free pick-up of tree limbs/brush (effective July 1, 2010).
We encourage our residents/businesses to drop off their tree limbs & brush at the City’s Compost Facility.

The Major Storm Pick-up will be operated under the following rules:
- Free pick-ups will only occur after a “Severe Thunderstorm, Tornado, or High Wind Warning” has been generated by ‘CODE RED’ for areas in the Urbana city limits. There must be extensive damage to trees in the community before this service is activated. The announcement will be posted on the City’s website and on the local access cable channel.
- The service is for major storm damage only—residents are not permitted to place non-storm damage at the curb under this program.
- This service is available for small to medium size damage as determined by the Street Superintendent or his designee. The property owner is responsible for having large sized damage removed.
- Tree limbs that are 4’ or shorter must be either bundled or in a yard waste bag. For tree limbs longer than 4’, place the limbs in a pile with the limbs in one direction.
Residents must have the storm damage placed at the curb by the designated date (for efficiency purposes, the City needs to make one trip through the City).

With the opening of the City Compost/Mulch Facility, the City is discontinuing the free pick-up of tree limbs/brush (effective July 1, 2010).
We encourage our residents/businesses to drop off their tree limbs & brush at the City’s Compost Facility.
- Depositing yard waste, or any other material, in the street contrary to the City’s yard waste program is considered “Littering” under Section 3767.32 of the Ohio Revised Code and is subject to prosecution.
