City of Urbana Engineering Permit Forms
The following forms are required by engineering in order to insure all adopted City of Urbana standards are met. Permitting also serves as a notice for inspections performed by the City Engineering Department.
City of Urbana Zoning and Engineering Fee Schedule
Right-of-Way Permits are required for any work done within the road right-of-way. Examples of this work include installing or replacing a sidewalk or a drive approach, putting in a handicap ramp, making a roadway dig to hook into water or sewer, etc. Each permit is $50 and should be filed in person with the Engineering Department.
A Geothermal System Permit is required when any outdoor work is done to install a geothermal heating and/or cooling system. The main reason for permitting this is for the protection of the underground aquifer. Each permit is $50 and should be filed in person with the Engineering Department.
There is now an established process for requesting a handicap space be placed along the street in front of your residence. If you have no available off-street parking and certain other conditions are met, you may be eligible for a residential disabled parking space. The application fee is $50 to get started and should be filed in person with the Engineering Department.
Tree Work Permits are required starting in 2020. This is for planting or removal of trees within the right-of-way. It helps keep the City’s inventory up to date, protects neighboring infrastructure and makes sure placement and tree type are well thought out. There is no fee for this permit.
Lot Split applications are required for any division of a lot resulting in a reduction in land area for the created or remaining lot(s). The City Engineering Department reviews these for zoning conformance. Each application is $50 and should be filed in person with the Engineering Department. The Champaign County Engineer’s Office has a separate process and must be consulted as well.Petitions for Alley or Street Vacations are required if an alley or street is sought to be vacated by the majority of abutting property owners. Upon acceptance by Engineering of a completed petition and plot plan, there will be a fee of $200 required in order to be heard by the City of Urbana Planning Commission. The Planning Commission makes a recommendation to City Council.
